[EN] Tremendous price increase in crop markets: With a month closing price of 186.75 EUR per ton, European corn prices have jumped by 20.9% in June. Wheat and soybeans have shown significant price rises as well.
The weather is to blame for it – all over the world. Heavy rains across the eastern Midwest of the USA at harvest time have impaired crop yield prospects noticeably. For Asia and Europe weather forecasts are unfavorable as well. Also in Australia wheat production will be smaller than expected because of a strong drought.
Moreover the stock level for wheat is no longer increasing, for corn and cotton even decreasing. Additionally for corn, the cropland is significantly smaller compared to the previous year. All these effects together have let to a major price jump. This article shows you the latest price developments and relevant key figures for agricultural commodities.

With a view to the past 12 months, we have observed strong price decreases as well as increases for agricultural raw materials. Considering the largest declines, the price for pork (CME) has fallen by -35.5%, for wheat hrw (US f.o.b.) by -18.6% and for rice (CBOT) by -17.3%. The strongest price rises were noticed in the markets for chicken (U.S. wholesale price) +23.8%, skimmed milk poweder (f.o.b. Europe) +23.6% and whole milk powder (f.o.b. Europe) +22.4%.

During the last month, we have observed the highest price drops in the markets for pork (CME) -11.5%, butter (f.o.b. Europe) -10.0% and for whole milk powder (f.o.b. Europe). -6.4%. At the same time prices have risen the most for corn (Euronext Paris) + 20.9%, wheat (CBOT) + 17.4% and wheat (Euronext Paris) + 13.4%. The highest price movements are still registered in the market for pork (CME) with an annualized volatility of 51%.
