Agriculture: Highlights | May 2014

[EN] The price of wheat has risen for the third month in a row. At the same time a remarkable price decrease has been noticed in the Pork market. This article shows you the latest price developments and relevant key figures for agricultural commodities.

With a view to the past 12 months, we have observed strong price decreases as well as increases for agricultural raw materials. Considering the lowest returns, Rice prices (5% Thailand, f.o.b. Bangkok) fell by -40.2% and Corn prices (CBOT/US f.o.b.) by -34.5%/-28.9% in 1 year. The strongest price rises were noticed for Cocoa (ICCO) +22.6%, Pork (CME lean hogs futures) +20.9% as well as for Feeder Cattle (CME) +20.3%.

During the last month, Sugar prices (US c.i.f.) have increased by +9.7% and Soybeans prices (CBOT) by 4.5%, whereas price declines have been observed in the market for Pork (CME lean hogs futures) -7.3% and Rice (5% Thailand, f.o.b. Bangkok) -6.5%. The highest price movements are currently registered by the Pork market (CME lean hogs futures) with an annualized volatility of 47.2%.
