Agriculture: Highlights | August 2014

[EN] Prices of the main agricultural markets declined this month. Corn (Euronext Paris) decreased by -13.1%, Wheat (Euronext Paris) by -23.2% and Cotton (ICE Futures US) even by -38.6% during the last three months. On the other hand, cocoa (ICE Futures) has kept on rising – in the last year by +34.7%. This article shows you the latest price developments and relevant key figures for agricultural commodities.

With a view to the past 12 months, we have observed strong price decreases as well as increases for agricultural raw materials. Considering the lowest returns, Wheat prices (CBOT) fell by -23.3%, Cotton prices (ICE Futures US) by -32.8% and Corn prices (CBOT, Euronext Paris and US f.o.b.) by -25.4%/-30.0%/-46.0% in one year. The strongest price rises were noticed for Cocoa (ICCO and ICE Futures London) +29.1%/+34.7% as well as for Feeder Cattle (CME) +35.6%.

During the last month, Cattle prices (US c.i.f.) have increased by +13.2% and Coffee (LIFFE) by +8.1%, whereas price declines have particularly been observed in the markets for Cotton (ICE Futures US) -23.5% and Soybeans (CBOT) -13.6%. The highest price movements are currently registered in the Pork (CME) market with an annualized volatility of 39.6%.
