Energies: Highlights | April 2015

[EN] Trend reversed: Crude oil prices have dropped again. With a return of -7.3% (Brent) and -2.8% (WTI) the gains from the previous month are reversed, averaging 52.56 EUR (Brent) and 45.35 EUR (WTI) in March.
This is because the markets are still oversupplied. There are large inventories of crude oil in the US as well as in Iran where 30 million barrels are stockpiled in tankers at sea. Additionally demand has kept weakening seasonally because of warmer weather and refinery maintenance.
Moreover natural gas prices in the US have declined by 4.9% in March due shrinking demand and high inventories. This article shows you the latest price developments and relevant key figures for energies.

Taking the past 12 months into account, we have observed  price declines for all our energies analysed. In particular crude oil WTI (-51.1%) and Brent (-41.8%) have fallen most intensive. However the markets of natural gas in the US (-25.0%) and EU (-3.1%) report a clear price slump as well.

During the last month, Brent (-7.3%) and WTI (-2.8%) have stopped their increase of the previous month and also natural gas US (-4.9%) has fallen again. As natural gas markets in the US and EU are not correlated, EU natural gas prices have increased (+4.6%). The highest price movements are still registered by the US market of natural gas with an annualized volatility of 57.0% in March.
