Energies: Highlights | June 2015

[EN] Contrary trends keep crude oil prices relatively stable. With a return of 0.3% (Brent) and 3.3% (WTI) prices show considerably less volatility than in previous months.
On the one hand OPEC decided to keep on pursuing their expansive strategy and thereby producing an output of 30 million barrels a day, which would normally be enough reason for a downtrend.
However, on the other hand stocks in the U.S. have been declining for three weeks in a row. Accompanied by a sustainable decrease in U.S. crude oil production, prices also have reasons to rise.
Both trends have been compensating each other in May and result in only a very small price increase, in particular for Brent.
Both natural gas markets in the U.S. and in Europe report falling prices. This is due to a combination of mild weather and growing stocks, which put prices under pressure. This article shows you the latest price developments and relevant key figures for energies.

Taking the past 12 months into account, we have observed  price declines for all our energies analysed. In particular natural gas U.S. (-33.9%) and crude oil WTI (-31.8%) have fallen most intensive. However crude oil Brent (-29.9%) and natural gas EU (-13.0%) have declined significantly as well.

During the last month, WTI (+3.3%) and Brent (+0.3%) show small increases. At the same time both natural gas markets in the EU (-5.4%) and U.S. (-0.9%) report a price decrease although they are not correlated. The highest price movements are still registered in the market for WTI crude oil with an annualized volatility of 41.3% in May.

In order to provide a market visibility for European companies affected by raw material costs, the following analysis takes into consideration the price evolution in EUR unless specified. Please click on the raw materials below to receive more detailed information.
