Energies: Highlights | July 2015

[EN] Crude oil prices are falling again. With an average price of 63.79 USD for Brent (59.76 USD for WTI) in June, crude oil prices have dropped by 5.0%, reaching a price of 56,75 USD (Brent, 51.13 USD WTI) in early July – the lowest price level since April.
In particular, this development has been caused by the information that U.S. oil drilling has increased again – for the first time for 30 weeks. Moreover new data of the U.S. energy ministry showed a surprising increase of crude oil stocks. If this trend continued in the near future, the expected decline of U.S. oil production would be challenged. In this case, crude oil prices would be put under noticeable pressure once again. This article shows you the latest price developments and relevant key figures for energies.

Taking the past 12 months into account, we have observed  price declines for all our energies analysed. In particular crude oil Brent (-37.6%) and WTI (-37.0%) have fallen most intensive. However natural gas in the U.S. (-26.4%) and EU (-10.0%) have declined significantly as well.

During the last month, Brent (-5.6%), WTI (-4.3%) and natural gas in the EU have shown price drops. At the same time natural gas in the U.S. (+2.3%) report a price increase. Both natural gas markets are not correlated. The highest price movements are still registered in the market for WTI crude oil with an annualized volatility of 38% in June.

In order to provide a market visibility for European companies affected by raw material costs, the following analysis takes into consideration the price evolution in EUR unless specified. Please click on the raw materials below to receive more detailed information.
